A Few Reasons Why I Love Interval Training | Fat Burning Work Out Program

If you would like to burn up additional calories in a shorter period of time and genuinely supercharge your endurance, then you really want to look into interval training as a really good workout alternative.

If you are not familiar with interval training, it is a type of workout where you interchange brief high intensity periods of exercise (where you work out as hard as you are able to), with recuperation periods, where you slow down and catch your breath.

A few reasons why I love interval training are:

You can Cut your workout time in half. Interval training is a fantastic timesaver since you are doing a more demanding exercise regimen in a smaller time period.

You can get Increased Results. You will actually create more caloric burn during and AFTER your workout. The higher intensity of an interval training workout maximizes your metabolism for many hours after you finish your workout.

You have a lot of Flexibility in your workout. Interval training can be done with almost any type of aerobic exercise (treadmill, walking, jogging, elliptical trainer, bicycle, rowing machine, etc). You never have to get bored with interval training – just change your venue or your exercise machine and get it done.

Less Boredom.  Interval workouts don't get boring for most people because you they feel as if they zip by because you're splitting up the exercise into briefer sections. Workouts really feel long when you are doing steady state cardio on a treadmill for 60-90 minutes each workout – yuk!

Great for all levels of physical fitness. Jocks use interval training to step-up performance, however it is also a fantastic method for exercise newbies to get higher intensity exercise in more manageable doses. Remember if you are new to check with your doctor and you will want to check out some interval training resources and study up on this type of workout before you try this at home on your own.

If you have never tried interval training, you want to begin modestly - you can simply take your regular workout and add a couple of sprints  (i.e., you can increase the rate at which you are walking, you can increase the incline on your treadmill, you can increase the resistance on your elliptical trainer, etc.) throughout the workout and be sure your slower intervals afford you the chance to amply recover from the sprint.

Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to make your intervals a lot more intense. Many personal trainers suggest that you only do interval training once or twice a week to keep from injuring yourself.

I Love Interval Training - Interval Training Works For Me | My Beginnings…

It is really easy to get down on yourself when you are carrying a lot of extra weight and you know you need to lose it.  It is easy to feel overwhelmed with what you have let yourself become.

I know what that is like because I was 50 pounds over my healthy weight for many years. I wanted to be slim and healthy but because I had packed on so many pounds the huge change I needed to make made it feel almost impossible. My self esteem was in the pits. I felt awful about my body and I tried to cover it up with loose-fitting clothes and extra large coats even during warm weather which was so uncomfortable.

If you are like I used to be and you want to lose weight, you want FAST results so that you can actually see that your effort and sacrifice are paying off….otherwise it is easy to give up and go back to the old unhealthy ways. When I was beginning my weight loss effort which eventually led to losing over 50 pounds, I wanted results relatively soon so that I would have the incentive to stay on my healthy track.

When you have a lot of weight to lose it can seem like you are going to have to diet forever to ever get to your goal - so seeing results on the scale and in the mirror can be very motivating to stick with your program.

Back when I lost my 50+ pounds I followed what was generally taught when it came to losing weight. Eat healthier foods and exercise.  The healthy eating advice was good however the “expert” exercise advice I followed was to exercise for at least 60 minutes a day in a “fat burning” zone. I followed that advice for years and I would even change my schedule and get up as early as 4 AM to make sure I got my “fat burning” workout hour in for the day.

Well it turns out the “exercise gurus” that say to work out for a long time each day in a “fat burning” zone might not be giving you the best advice.

Clinical research is now showing that the INTENSITY of your exercise is more important than the DURATION if you want to lose weight quickly and keep it off. Many clinical studies have proven you really can get better results with shorter workouts that are more intense if you do them correctly.

I am now working with a strategy of interval training using Turbulence Training by Craig Ballantyne. This system is amazingly simple to follow and the extra time I now have (due to decreasing my workout time each day) gives me time to share time with my family and friends or just having some fun.

I am sharing my progress here at my site.
